Kim McCarthy graduated with her Masters of Science in Audiology from Dalhousie University in 1997 and completed her Doctoral degree in Audiology from Salus University in October 2008. Kim is a SAC (Speech-Language and Audiology Canada ) certified audiologist and is a member of SAC, SHANS (Speech and hearing Association of Nova Scotia) and Sounds+.
Kim comes from a diverse clinical background. Her years of experience working in a hospital setting, in a private practice and for two major international hearing aid manufacturers has resulted in a superior level of knowledge on an number of topics, particularly amplification. Most recently, Kim was the Senior Trainer for a Danish hearing aid company and as such was responsible for travelling to Scandinavia to learn about new and exciting hearing instruments yet to be released to the market. She also provided product training to the Canadian division as well as audiologists throughout Canada.
Kim lives in Cow Bay with her husband and 2 children, and is excited at the prospect of being home with her family on a consistent basis after spending years traveling from coast to coast. “Although being at the forefront of new technology is exciting, you miss out on the direct patient contact. I am so enjoying learning about my patients’ lives, their needs, and helping them not only hear better but live better.”
Jenna MacKay graduated from Dalhousie University with her Master’s of Science in Audiology and prior to that received a bachelor’s degree with honours in Biochemistry Nutrition from Memorial University. She received the School of Human Communication Disorders award for Clinical Excellence and Professionalism in Audiology upon graduation. Jenna is a certified Audiologist and member with Speech-Language and Audiology Canada, is the President of Sounds+ and a member of SHANS.
Jenna’s interests lie in promoting hearing health care and using the most up-to-date techniques to assess and treat the auditory system. Jenna is very compassionate and dedicated to giving superior care that is individualized for each patient based on their communication and lifestyle needs.
Jenna was born and raised in Wellington N.S. and currently resides in Fall River with her husband, son and daughter. “I love that I am able to provide care to individuals in their home community. It is very important to have a clinic that is available to them on a full-time basis for when unexpected assistance is required”.
Laura MacDougall brings her diverse background in health professions training to her role with The Hearing Specialists. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2013, and later graduated from Dalhousie University with her Master of Science in Audiology. Upon completing her graduate studies, Laura was selected as the Dalhousie recipient of the 2016 Canadian Academy of Audiology Student Award. Laura is a certified audiologist with Speech-Language and Audiology Canada, and is a member of SAC, SHANS and Sounds+.
Laura’s compassionate and caring nature is evident in her patient care approach. She strives to help educate and empower her patients to better manage their hearing loss and auditory disorders. Laura values working together with patients and their families to help develop the best suited rehabilitation approach for each person and family.
Laura lives in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, where she can often be found roaming the parks and trails with her trusted canine sidekick. Laura is thrilled to be working in her home province, and loves getting to know her patients and their communities. “The most rewarding part of my job is knowing my patients feel confident in their ability to manage their hearing loss and comfortable enough to seek my help when assistance is needed – I never want a patient to worry or feel as if they are a bother!”
Angela Wright comes to us with over 15 years of experience in the customer service industry with. For the past 13 years she has been working in a corporate travel call center and decided to make a change and use her customer service experience within her community.
Since Angela is new to this industry she is looking forward to learning all she can about hearing loss and helping our patients as much as possible. She is also looking forward to meeting everyone and will greet you with a warm smile and friendly personality!
Angela was born on the south shore of Nova Scotia and currently resides in Enfield with her husband and two step children. In her spare time she likes to travel and can often be found at the local arena as she is a proud hockey step mom!
Laura Hawkins recently joined The Hearing Specialists team in our Tantallon location. She grew up in Fletcher’s Lake and now resides in Halifax. She is very excited to be joining us and brings with her 6 years of customer service experience from working in the Airline industry.
Everything about the hearing industry is new to Laura but with her positive go getter attitude she looks forward to learning lots from the team and our patients. She will give you a big smile as soon as you walk through the front door and is always willing to help with your needs. Laura is friendly and can strike up a conversation with anyone, so feel free to stop in and see her. When Laura is not working she is spending her time with her family and friends.
