With the warmest months just around the corner, it’s time to think about how to keep your ears safe and healthy during the summertime. Here are a few things to consider as we get outdoors and enjoy the long days and fresh air:
Swim Plugs: If you or your child are prone to swimmer’s ear, having water plugged in your ear, or have a hole or tubes in your eardrum, you should protect your ears when swimming or ducking your head under water. Swim plugs come in a variety of styles and colours and are most effective if they are custom made for your ear.
Hearing Protection: Summer is the time for renovations and lawn care, so remember that noise damage can occur even after a short exposure to extremely loud equipment like power tools and lawn mowers. When worn properly, over the ear muffs and foam plugs can significantly reduce the risk of noise damage. Like swim plugs, custom made hearing protection is also available, which can increase comfort, and can be further customized for special uses, like musician’s plugs and specific sound filtering needs.
Hearing Aid Moisture Care: Are you a hearing aid user and are worried how our coastal humidity or even perspiration on a warm day will affect your hearing aids? We recommend using a dry-aid kit – a special case designed to remove moisture from your hearing aids. These kits can help prevent unnecessary damage and prolong the life of your hearing aids.
